First Impression:Samples Edition #2 |Urban Decay, Kat Von D, Kenzo, Lolita Lempicka, Katy Perry, First Aid Beauty, Algenist| (EN)

Hello everyone

It's time for part #2 on the rubric “First Impression” which is basically short reviews based on my first impression on products I've tried for the first time. You can read part #1 here in case you've missed it: http://preslavasbeautydiary.blogspot.bg/2016/11/first-impressionsamples-edition-1-urban_6.html

Makeup:

1.Urban Decay Naked Skin 5.0 foundation

This foundation has super light consistency and it glides on like a dream – it doesn't make my pores and fine lines visible, it's slightly adaptive to the skin tone, it has luminous matte finish, it looks super natural on the skin and it didn't irritate my sensitive skin. The only minus I found is the lack longevityon the 4th hour of wearing my skin was super oily although I mattifyed it with translucent powder and I had primer underneath. I mattifyed again and 2 hours later I could wipe my entire foundation out of my face with just a paper towel. It just wears out throurough and it disappears from my skin especially on my nose and chin area and my skin isn't this oily right now. If it has better longevity I might buy it full size but the lack of longevity is a huge miss for me. I don't think it's normal after just 4 hours of wearing the foundation to look like I've wore it for over 12 hours. I like everything else about this foundation but without good staying power I won't buy it. I think it would be great for women with dry and normal skin.

2.Kat Von D Lock-It-Hydrating primer

This primer is is an ultra-hydrating, water-based formula that preps your skin for perfect long-wear foundation application and comfortable all-day wear. Ideal for dry and sensitive skin types. I have sensitive and oily skin and this is the first face primer I've tried that isn't silicone based. I was surprised to see that this primer has like a light creamy consistency which is super easy to apply. But! This primer is strongly scented and after just a couple of minutes it started irritating my sensitive skin. My skin get irritated and on the next day I woke up with rashes and I'm sure it's this primer's fault because when I tried KVD's foundation I also got rashes. This primer didn't elongate the lasting power of the foundation (I wore it underneath Urban Decay's foundationon the 6th hour I was super oily although I used a lot of translucent powder. I can't understand the hype around this primer, plus I got rashes from it so I won't try to like KVD's products anymore, neither her foundation and primer worked for me. Also I found the packagings quite ugly. I don't recommend and I won't buy full size.

Skincare:

1.First Aid Beauty face cleanser

First Aid Beauty is quite popular at the moment when it comes to skincare and this cleanser was my first product from their brand but probably it would be the last too. The first thing I noticed when I first opened the cleanser was the disgusting smell I felt. Seriously I was blown away by this smell (burnt plastic and rotten eggs) and the product wasn't expire?! Brrrrr! This was probably one of the worst things I've ever smell but I decided to try it on my skin (with blocked nose ofc) and this cleanser didn't impress me at all – it didn't remove my makeup completely, nothing different than a regular face cleanser. Formula is gentle and it didn't irritate my sensitive skin but this isn't something I would pay 20$ for full size, especially with this scent. I don't recommend this cleanser even if you do have troubles with the smell.

2.Algenist Anti-Aging Blurring Moisturizer SPF 30

I haven't heard anything about this brand so I had to do a little research – quite luxurious, great ingredients, has patented the Alguronic Acid which is a powerful compound responsible for regenerating and protecting their micro algae cell. All Algenist formulas contain Alguronic Acid and are patented. This ultra-nourishing, luxurious moisturizer is formulated with extremophile microalgae and Algenist’s patented alguronic acid to provide an immediate protecting and blurring veil to shield skin from air pollution and UV damage. It hydrates and blurs imperfections for a smooth, radiant finish while also working to repair skin and visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Skin appears youthful, luminous, and smooth. I agree that the feeling while applying this cream was luxurious, the texture is super mild and light and it glides so smooth on the skin. It's strongly scented and I don't like the scent at all – it smells just like a hospital, like a lot of medicines and chemicals. Applied on the skin this cream has amazing finish – matte, but the skin feels super hydrated and boosted and is a great base for underneath your foundation. Right after I applied it I felt my skin a bit irritated but after a couple more minutes everything was okay. I think it's because of the ingredients in it, the cream is for more mature skin and the ingredients should be stronger and aggressive. I wore the cream for over 16 hours and my skin was matte the whole day which is wow! Plus it smoothed my pores and I think it would smooth wrinkles/fine lines too. I like this cream and I might buy it after a couple of years, not now because i'm 23 and I don't have any wrinkles and I don't think I need anti aging cream.

Fragrances:

1.Kenzo Jeu DAmour EDP

First things first I have to say that this is the first Kenzo fragrance i've ever tried – I just don't like Kenzo's bottles and I have never had interest in trying them. This sample I got after I spend over 60$ in Beauty Zone & Douglas and this was the only sample they gave away to me – funny, huh? I have to say it again – i'm disappointed from the way cosmetic stores treats their clients in Bulgaria and whenever I can I prefer online shopping. After I received this sample I immediately sprayed it but it was 30o outside and this perfume was too overwhelming for the hot weather so I decided to test it again in the winter/spring. It first sight I thought I would like this perfume – I adore most of the notes, beside the musk (which is barely noticeable here) and the freesia (which is too sharp and overwhelming for my taste).

Top notes:
 blood orange, pomegranate, tea

Middle notes:
tuberose, freesia

Base notes:
sandalwood, musk

First when sprayed this perfume is quite sharp and strong, I feel mostly blood orange but I feel it mixed with some alcohol note, not the usual fresh citrus smell. I barely detect pomegranate and tea notes which is so disappointing because I really like them in a perfume. Freesia appears shortly after spraying and it stays till the end as well as the tuberose. Sandalwood appears in the base and it makes the scent a bit warmer and musk is barely noticeable too and it gives Jeu D'Amour kind of a soapy note. Freesia is the note I feel most intensely and if you're not into freesia skip this perfume. Jeu D'Amour is categorized as floral gourmet type of scent and I was curious to try it, but this is definetely my type of scent. I would describe it as completely floral perfume that has a lot of freesia in, a bit tuberose and a tiny bit of sandalwood and blood orange, but it's not gourmet at all. I would definetely like this more if pomegranate and tea notes appear stronger but Jeu D'Amour for me is completely white floralish-floral type of scent. I don't like freesia and it irritates me in a perfume and here makes no exception – it's fresh but it's so sharp and it makes every perfume too retro smelling. I have to admit that Jeu D'Amour is nicely composed and creamy, fine and feminine scent but it's not for me. I think it would suit young women as well as mature women, basically every women that like white florals. As I said this perfume smells too retro for me. Longevity is high – it has strong sillage and projection and it stays on the hair & clothes. The bottle is ugly for my taste but as I said i'm not a fan of Kenzo. I won't buy Jeu D'Amour full size, it's not my type of scent, I don't like it although I like white florals but this one is way too floral. Pomegranate and tea notes are so rare to find in a perfume and I think it's a miss that instead of making them appear stronger Kenzo went for the boring combination of white florals and gave the “floral-gourmet”category which is funny because the only gourmet thing here is a tiny bit of blood orange right after spraying. If you're into freesia and white florals you'll probably like Jeu D'Amour.

2.Lolita Lempicka Le Premier EDT

I had a moment a few months back when I was crazy about the perfume Le premier. I read a lot of reviews about it and since i'm a huge violets and licorice lover I was ready to blind purchase this. Lolita Lempicka's fragrances aren't available in my country anymore so I had to purchase a sample of the scent first. It was my mistake that I purchased the EDT version instead of the EDP, I was so angry and dissapointed when I first opened the sample. When I first sprayed this on my skin I immediately knew there was a mistake – no violets and licorice, only iris, lavender and powder.

Top notes:
lemon, almond, cherry, apricot

Middle notes:

iris, jasmine, licorice

Base notes:
musk, violet, incense

When first sprayed this scent is really alcohol-lemony, sharp and too chemical for my liking and I found it good that it lasts just a few minutes. There is no vanilla, which I like, but no cherry and apricot as well, no sweetness at all, just lemon like a dish wash smell. I love lemon notes in my perfumes but here the lemon is really sour and rubbing alcohol smelling. 3-4 minutes later I smell iris which fast turns the fragrance into mono iris scent, a tiny bit of licorice and no jasmine. There is no lavender mentioned in the notes but on my skin appears a lot of lavender. This scent on me is like a combination of iris and lavender plus a lot of powder. Musk is slightly detectable in the base, a didn't feel any violet as well as any sweetness. Le premier EDT is completely powdery-floral scent. I feel it cold (probably because of the lavender), dry and really powdery, (like i've snoozed my loose powder) it's just not my type of fragrance, it doesn't suits me and I feel like i'm wearing someone else's perfume. I don't like iris, I found it's scent so dry and it makes me feel like i'm having a sour throat. I don't like lavender too when it comes to perfumes – I always feel it ice cold and it makes me think about men shaving cream. I also don't like powdery scents too, they are too overwhelming and I stay away from them but if you're into powdery scents this might be for you – it sooooooooo powdery. I'm 23 and I feel like this fragrance would suit a lady that is older than me and more sophisticated – my mom for example liked this a lot. I didn't like Le premier EDT and I won't buy it full size but I have to say that it's a classic fragrance, always trendy, really feminine – smells of flowers and powder and suits every season. I found it strange that I don't like it and I won't wear it but I would like it on someone else. Longevity is great – over 8 hours and keep in mind it's EDT concentration. It has good projection and it's noticeable. The bottle is super pretty, like all of LL's fragrances. I won't buy it and I don't recommend it without test, because the notes might mislead so I have to keep in my mind that:1. I have to pay more attention when I purchase online. It was my mistake and from now on I'll be more careful if im purchasing EDT or EDP. It's a myth that EDT is a lighter version of the perfume – as far as I read Le premier EDT and EDP are 2 different fragrances. 2. I have to not blind purchase. I almost got a 80ml bottle of a fragrance I don't like. 3. Find the Le premier EDP. I'm going to find the EDP version and give it a try even if there isn't a single violet.

3. Katy Perry Meow EDP

I had some issues finding Le Premier for test but they can't compare to the issues I had trying to find this one :D I visited every single store I know trying to test this but I couldn't find a tester and finally I found it online and purchased a sample. Actually, I did found Meow in Lilly Drogerie but they didn't have a tester bottle so I couldn't give it a try. Like what?? Who would buy a perfume without even testing it on the skin? Very bad marketing decision, Lilly Drogerie, very bad.
I've heard about Meow from my favourite youtuber Shaaanxo in her video about her perfume collection and I was intrigued to give it a try.

Top notes:
jasmine, gardenia, tangerine, pear

Middle notes:
African orange blossom, Lilly-of-the-valley, honeysuckle

Base notes:
musk, sandalwood, аmber, vanilla

At first this scent is really sweet, like a honey sweet although honey isn't listed in the composition. I feel a lot of pears sprinkled with honey/or sugar syrup. In a few minutes the sweetness tones down a bit but the scent is still really sweet and the white flowers appear (jasmine, gardenia and orange blossom) on my skin Lilly-of-the-valley and honeysuckle didn't appear at all. In the base I feel a hint of sandalwood and a little bit of musk. It's interesting how I feel the perfume super honey-ish but honey isn't listed in the notes. The honey feel probably comes from the combination of amber & vanilla. Meow is quite sweet but there isn't sweet notes beside the pear, amber and vanilla. Although vanilla is my mostly hated scent ever, I'm feeling sick whenever I smell vanilla, here in combination with amber and the rest notes I smell pure honey which I like a lot. I love honey! If you're expecting realistic vanilla, this one isn't yours. Meow is really sweet, warm creamy, comfy and linear – it doesn't show intense development after you first sprayed it, only a few white florals and sandalwood appear later. During the whole wear I feel sweet pear with honey/sugar syrup and a bit of tangerine. I love sour berries and they appear in almost all of my perfumes but since I got Lanvin Jeanne Scandal I realized that I love pear in a perfume. The pear in meow is really authentical and sweet. Although Meow is quite a sweet scent it's definitely not a sickly sweet type a scent that you can feel with every move and takes all the air from the room (like La vie est belle for example). This one is in the category of Prada Candy and my favourite for the summer Lanvin Jeanne Scandal. All of my girlfriend that smell Meow on me like it. Meow is simple and unpretentious and I think every woman that's into sweet kind of perfumes would like it. Longevity is 4 to 6 hours and it stays next to the skin, there isn't strong sillage. This perfume is definitely a daytime appropriate and I found it perfect for every season – for the winter and as well in the summer. The bottle is kitsch and tacky an even psycho and I don't like it at all, I don't like cats either and honestly, I don't expect from Katy Perry to create something nice from my aesthetic point of view. Meow is really nice scent and it has nothing to do with the usual celebrity perfumes like Britney's Fantasies, which I don't like too. Although the composition of Meow is simple the notes are blended nicely and I think it deserves a try. It's really girly and “pink” and suitable for teenage target. Almost all of my perfumes contain berries that are more on the sour side and make my perfumes sexy and sophisticated while this one is carefree, nice, unpretentious and youthful. I'm thinking about buying a 30ml bottle of this for whenever i'm in the mood for something sweet. I recommend this for a try if you like sweet scents.
